Bandung, 18 May 2026 — Another achievement was recorded by students of Universitas Sangga Buana (USB) YPKP Bandung. Najma Noorfitri Syarifah, a student of the Information Systems Study Program, class of 2023, won 1st Place in the Speech Competition at the Annual Saeed National Competition (ASNC) 2026 organized by UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung.
ASNC is an annual English-based competition featuring various academic and communication skill competition branches. In this year's competition, Najma delivered a speech on the theme of student mental health titled “The Psychological Impact of Anger”.
In her speech, Najma explained that anger does not only emerge as an impact of mental health disorders, but can also become a factor influencing students' psychological conditions. To strengthen her argument, she also included a number of supporting studies from research she had previously studied.
“Starting from reading books, I became interested in raising this theme because it turns out that anger has a major impact on student mental health,” she said.
This achievement marked an improvement for Najma after previously winning 2nd Place in the same competition in 2025. Her consistency in participating in national competitions is proof of the spirit of USB YPKP Bandung students in developing both academic and non-academic potential.
Despite having a short preparation time, Najma still tried to maximize the training process and speech material preparation. She admitted to only finalizing the speech script on D-3 before the competition.
According to her, the material preparation process begins by noting down the important points she wanted to convey, then developing arguments based on her own thinking before going through several revision stages.
“I usually note down the important points first, then build arguments from those points and keep correcting them until I get a final draft that is truly good,” she explained.
Before determining the main theme, Najma also researched several issues relevant to student life. From the various theme options considered, she ultimately chose the mental health issue because it is considered close to the reality of today's students.
Behind her success, Najma faced the challenge of dividing time between lectures and work. According to her, the ability to manage time and determine priorities is the key to being able to carry out all responsibilities well.
The competition was also quite a nerve-wracking experience for her. In fact, a day before the competition, Najma felt less confident because she had not fully memorized the speech script she had prepared.
“I almost wanted to cancel because I had not memorized the script, but in the end I pushed myself to perform on competition day. Alhamdulillah everything went smoothly,” she said.
During the preparation process through the competition, Najma also received support from the Head of the Information Systems Study Program, Khaerul Manaf, S.T., M.Kom., Ph.D., who continuously provided motivation and encouragement.
After successfully winning 1st Place, Najma hopes that other students will also dare to make use of various opportunities during their studies, whether through competitions, workshops, or other self-development activities.
“Winning or losing comes later; the important thing is to dare to participate first. Because from competitions we can gain experience, connections, and very valuable lessons,” she said.
Najma Noorfitri Syarifah's achievement is proof of Universitas Sangga Buana YPKP Bandung's commitment to encouraging students to keep growing, achieving, and competing through creativity, courage, and superior academic quality.
