Universitas Sangga Buana YPKP and ROY Japan Strengthen Education and Construction Industry Synergy

Bandung, 23 February 2026 – Universitas Sangga Buana (USB) YPKP Bandung officially established cooperation with the Japanese construction company ROY Co., Ltd. through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU), Monday (23/2/2026). The activity, held at the BJB Corner Hall, Building B 1st Floor of USB YPKP, is a strategic step in strengthening international collaboration in the field of civil engineering.

This cooperation is a follow-up to previous communication built by USB YPKP with the Japanese partner Indonesia Research Institute Japan (IRIJ) in December 2025. At that time, ROY was introduced as a potential partner bringing global industry perspectives and work practices based on Japanese standards.

The Rector of USB YPKP, Dr. H. Didin Saepudin, S.E., M.Si., affirmed the importance of international collaboration in facing the challenges of globalization. According to him, the world of higher education is required to produce human resources (HR) who are competent, professional, and adaptive to industry needs.

“This cooperation is in line with the demands of competition in the globalization era, which requires competent and professional HR quality to produce a quality higher education system,” he said in his remarks.

The Rector of USB YPKP added that strengthening education quality can be done through lecturer and student exchanges, as well as international research collaboration. These steps are considered capable of expanding the university's network while increasing the competitiveness of graduates, especially in the field of civil engineering.

As part of the implementation of academic cooperation, the S1 and S2 Civil Engineering Study Programs of USB YPKP also received grants for Research and Community Service (PKM). The grants include donations for the purchase of fruit tree seedlings in the North Bandung area as an effort to restore environmental conditions while helping underprivileged farmers in the region. This program is expected to be a real form of the university's contribution to supporting environmental sustainability and community empowerment through research and service collaboration based on local needs.

The MoU signing was carried out directly by the Rector of USB YPKP and the President of ROY, Ryuji Oishi. This cooperation focuses on developing cross-disciplinary research, increasing international publications, and introducing the culture and language of both countries in an educational context.

From USB YPKP, the activity was attended by the Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Education Foundation for Finance and Banking (YPKP), Ir. H. Hendra Garnida, MT, vice rectors, deans, and leaders of the Civil Engineering Study Program. Meanwhile, from ROY, a number of company representatives attended to witness the signing ceremony.

After the ceremony, the agenda continued with a discussion session with dozens of USB YPKP Civil Engineering students. The discussion raised the theme of young people's interest in the construction world and international career opportunities.

In the session, Ryuji Oishi highlighted the challenge of regeneration in the construction sector. “Young people nowadays are not very interested in the development sector. In our company there are 400 young people, and we consider them family,” he said.

On the same occasion, the Third Vice Rector of USB YPKP, Dr. Nurhaeni Sikki, S.A.P., M.A.P., also gave direction to the students. She affirmed that international collaboration is the campus strategy to expand students' global competence. “This cooperation specifically for the Civil Engineering Study Program is our real step in producing graduates with a global outlook. We encourage students to take opportunities to work in Japan, to absorb international work ethics and the world's most advanced construction technology. This is not just working, but a strategic effort to make our graduates key players in the global industry,” she said.

Students took advantage of the opportunity to explore information about cutting-edge construction technology, international internship opportunities, and work culture in Japan. The discussion was interactive and received positive responses from participants.

Closing the series of events, the Rector of USB YPKP again emphasized the importance of graduate readiness in facing the era of disruption. “Must be agile and easily adaptable in the era of disruption to produce graduates with superior competitive human resources,” he asserted.

Through this MoU signing, USB YPKP and ROY agreed to open space for sustainable collaboration, which is expected to provide real benefits for the development of student competence while strengthening international relations in the construction sector.
